Zofia  Neugebauer was born in the town of Wodzisław Śląski, Poland, in 1994, and started playing the piano at the age of five. However, her fascination with the subtle possibilities of the flute led her to take it up at the age of ten, and her continued passion for its rich and delicate sound has developed into a rich and creative career as a soloist and chamber musician. Her first appearance as a soloist was at the age of 13 when she performed with the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra in Katowice.

In order to further her musical knowledge, Zofia Neugebauer closed out her secondary school studies in Wrocław, at the specialised music school “Karol Szymanowski with the highest distinction in 2014. She then moved on to Basel to study at the Musik-Akademie Basel with Prof. Felix Renggli whom she had already met at a masterclass in Poland. 

Zofia Neugebauer concluded her Bachelor’s degree in Basel in  2016, earning the highest grade possible. She interrupted her postgraduate studies when she was selected as a member of the Berlin Philharmonic’s Karajan Academy in 2017. Over the next two years, she continued to learn and develop as a member of this prestigious institution under the guidance of Mathieu Dufour.

Since 2019, she works as Principal Flute with different orchestras, like the Symphony Orchestra Basel, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra Bern.  She also regularly appears as a solo flutist with orchestras such as the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Camerata Zurich, the Folkwang Kammerorchester. the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, the Philharmonisches Orchester Vorpommern, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonietta Cracovia,  having worked with conductors such as Simon Rattle, Ivan Fischer, Zubin Mehta, Paavo Järvi and James Gaffigan.

However, Zofia Neugebauer remains active as an ensemble musician and performer as well, with partners like the harpist Magdalena Hoffmann, the harpsichord player Diego Ares, the pianist Dominique Chamot and the cellist Alfredo Ferre. She is also a member of “Gruppo di tempera”, a Polish wind and piano ensemble and has been invited to festivals like the Kissinger Sommer, the Dresdner Musikfestspiele, the Gezeitenkonzerte and Kryżowa Music.

Zofia Neugebauer was a Fellow of the Polish Ministry of Culture and was awarded a scholarship by the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund and Villa Musica. She has also participated successfully in numerous competitions across Europe.
