The International Aeolus Competition for Wind Instruments has firmly established itself as a worldwide recognized stage for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone and Tuba. It takes place once a year in Düsseldorf since 2006. The Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities younger than 28 years. Each year three of the instrumental groups are opened for competition: 2024 the competition calls for Bassoon, Flute and Clarinet.

As the only international competition exclusively for wind instruments, it attracts new talents every year. The prizewinners of previous years now occupy top orchestral positions, perform as soloists with major orchestras or hold professorships at renowned music academies. The jury is made up of the best in their field and is held in the highest esteem.

Organizer of the Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments is the Sieghardt Rometsch Foundation whose mission is to support talented young musicians. Partners of the competition are the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and Deutschlandfunk Köln.

In addition to the attractive prize money, the competition offers the top three prizewinners concert engagements with renowned orchestras in Germany and abroad, which are awarded as scholarships. In 2023, the artist agency UR classics has taken over the organisation of the concerts as a cooperation partner.
